Field Update

| February 22, 2013

Finding shed antlers, regardless of size is always an exciting time for any hardcore whitetail hunter

Last week I took a break from my rigorous shooting schedule, and found time to pull my remaining trail cameras and look for some sheds.  In November I pulled about half of my cameras and left the other half up just to see what would show up as the winter months progressed. I fully anticipated that all of the cameras would have ran fresh out of battery since they had been in the field for 3 1/2 months. As expected, all but one camera was dead. Now,  Primo’s does not sponsor our website, but I have to say I am thoroughly impressed with there Truth Cam series. This year I used multiple brands of cameras and I have to say that my Primo’s Truth cameras held up the best. Surprisingly, my Truth Cam  had over 1,000 photo’s taken and still had 70% battery life remaining after sitting through the coldest 3 months of the year without a battery swap. What was even better was that it showed me that some of the bucks on the farm were still carrying full racks as of February 7th. Although I did not get pictures of any of my Hit List bucks, I did get pictures of some JV squad bucks that could very well be on the 2013 Hit List.

Other than pulling my remaining cameras, I did find a couple of sheds. Again, nothing over the top, but encouraging to know that some young bucks with potential are remaining in the area, and have made it through the gun seasons! Thats all for now, look for an announcement coming soon regarding TrophyPursuit.com T-Shirts that will be for sale at the Iowa Deer Classic this next weekend!

A rare daytime photo of a buck I call "Brutus." Despite having thousands of photos of him, I still have yet to see him from the stand.

This buck is a new one to show up, and shows similar characteristics to the buck I harvested last year!
